Obama Cuts Pro-Democracy Funds for Iran

By: Kenneth R. Timmerman

The Obama administration has cut funding for pro-democracy and human rights programs in Iran, reversing years of efforts during the Bush administration to help develop a civil society, congressional sources told Newsmax this week.

The move is apparently intended to please Iran’s rulers after they criticized President Obama and the State Department for allegedly seeking to fund a “velvet revolution” during the June presidential elections in Iran.

“It sounds like the Iranians complained in Geneva and we acceded to their demands,” a former senior government official familiar with the pro-democracy programs told Newsmax.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - Standing at the site of a highway project funded by his economic stimulus plan, President Barack Obama said Wednesday he is committed to exploring all avenues to create jobs.

First off, government doesn't create jobs, government has to create an environment that is fertile for job creation........in the private sector. This of course, is a foreign subject for Obama.

If you want to create jobs, you need the following:

1. A positive economic outlook: Right now the Obama policies are not creating that. You have a weakening dollar and gold at an all time high. Have those 2 thing occurred by themselves? No. And those are not positive signs for the US economy.

2. Less government regulation: Ask any businessman, from any walk of life, if business-chocking regulations are worse today than they were 5 years ago, and you will hear a resounding YES!

3. Reduce cost of labor: From rising minimum wages to mandated employee benefits, wages/costs in many sectors are artificially high due to government regulations. On top of that, you throw-in the pro-labor/unions policies this administration is implementing, and you have more rising costs on the horizon. Again, not good for business.

4. Less uncertainty: Talk to any businessman and ask them what they foresee in the next 6 months, and not one can give you a clear picture. They just don't know what new anti-business scheme is going to come out of Washington.
Ask any businessman, large or small, if they believe they have a friend in The White House?

From out of control deficits, runaway government spending, and looming higher taxes, we have an administration that is constantly attacking business and raising the specter of more government intervention and regulations. Is that good for business and job creation? I don't think so!

THIS SOUNDS EQUITABLE, NO???

Russia and the United States have tentatively agreed to a weapons inspection program that would allow Russians to visit nuclear sites in America to count missiles and warheads.

The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said publicly Tuesday that the two nations have made "considerable" progress toward reaching agreement on a new strategic arms treaty.

The 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START, expires in December and negotiators have been racing to reach agreement on a successor.

Clinton said the U.S. would be as transparent as possible.

"We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered," she said, calling missile defense "another area for deep cooperation between our countries."

On another critical issue, Lavrov declared that it would be counterproductive to threaten Iran with more sanctions over its nuclear program -- as he resisted efforts by Clinton to win agreement for tougher measures should Iran fail to prove its program is peaceful.

2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The following were nominees for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize:

Sima Samar: Women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”

Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.

Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence.”

Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: “These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon.”

Hu Jia: Human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’”

Wei Jingsheng: Spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. He now lives in the United States.”

AND THE WINNER IS!!!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top U.S. labor group on Thursday asked the Obama administration's "pay czar" to stop any retirement payments to Bank of America Chief Executive Ken Lewis.

The Service Employees International Union sent a letter to pay czar Kenneth Feinberg, calling Lewis "one of the chief architects" of the economic crisis and saying he should not receive any retirement or severance package until the bank stops foreclosures and increases lending.

"Taxpayers have already provided nearly $200 billion in bailouts and backstops to Bank of America," the letter said. "This enormous public investment entitles taxpayers to have a say in the bank's executive compensation practices."

If you take FED money, be prepared to have unions thugs along with a PAY CZAR have a say in what your compensation will be.

Good luck Mr. Lewis!

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT

Gen. McChrystal has proposed a strategy for Afghanistan that calls for more troops. Substantially more troops!
On a daily basis were are being told that Obama is weighing all options on how to proceed in Afghanistan. But what if Obama decides to go against the McChrystal strategy? What does McChrystal do??
Does he proceed with a plan that he has openly said would fail?
How does he send men and women into battle pursuing a failed plan?
Does he resign?
I think he would have to resign, and if he does, you want to talk about a crisis in the Obama administration???

Even Ms. Couric is taking note.

OOOOH, BAAAAD KARMA !

In another brilliant international policy move, Obama has decided to not meet with the universal symbol of peace, the Dalai Lama.
The Buddhist monk arrived in Washington on Monday for a week of meetings with Congressional leaders, celebrity supporters and interest groups, but the president will not see him until after he has made his first visit to China next month.
This means that Obama will become the first president not to welcome the Nobel peace prize winner to the White House since the Dalai Lama began visiting Washington in 1991.
Clearly Obama is trying to be nice to the Chinese Communist Party in the hope that the Chinese will also be nice. Of course this idea that if you are nice to the Chinese Communist up front, they will be nice to you later is wrong on a multitude of levels. If you lower the bar on human rights the Chinese will just move it lower.
Not only is this another brilliant move by Obama, it's also another monumental flip-flop.
In April 2008, Obama was joined by Hillary Clinton, then his rival for the Democratic nomination and now his Secretary of State, in calling on George W Bush to boycott the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony in protest at the bloody repression of a popular uprising in Tibet.
At that time, Obama said: "If the Chinese do not take steps to help stop the genocide in Darfur and to respect the dignity, security, and human rights of the Tibetan people, then the President should boycott the opening ceremonies,"
I'm sure that right now thousands of Liberals are scrapping those "FREE TIBET" stickers from the bumpers of their Prius.

OBAMALYMPICS go pssssssssssss.................

In a monumental blow to Obama, the IOC eliminated Chicago in the first round of voting.
All along I was 100% sure the Chicago bid was a DONE DEAL. How could it not be a DONE DEAL?
First off, the First Lady along with Oprah flew to Copenhagen, where they made a weepy emotional plea to the committee. Then the BIG GUY personally makes a trip there, and makes another pitch for the Olympics. With all this 'theater' it has to be a DONE DEAL, right?
I mean, when heads of state make a trip, all the 'work' has been done behind the scenes, and the actual meetings are merely photo ops.
Can you imagine Nixon going to China and coming back with nothing?
Can you imagine Arafat and Sadat at Camp David and leaving with nothing?
When a US President meets with another head of state, they sign something, or agree on something! They don't just walk away empty handed.
What is obvious is that Obama thought he could just waltz into the IOC, do a little song and dance, and the IOC would just roll-over and give Chicago the games. Pssssssssssss............
Was this arrogance on parade, gigantic hubris, or just plain lack of preparation and negotiating skills?
Whatever it was, it is certainly a clear sign that these folks are in way over their heads, and the whole world, including our enemies know this.
When do those talks with Iran start? You know, the ones with no preconditions?

NO NEW TAXES. YEAH, RIGHT!

The “
Center for American Progress” lead by John Podesta, a former Clinton Chief of Staff and senior Obama adviser, recommended in a report to the Obama administration that:

[T]he administration should consider a tax on consumption, such as a value-added tax [VAT] system similar to that in use in the European Union. Mr. Podesta suggested that its impact should be limited to protect lower-income people, who otherwise might be hit particularly hard.

“As progressives we need to debate the policy merits [of] a range of options, including designing a small and more progressive value-added tax,” Mr. Podesta said in a statement Tuesday.

The report, said the administration can’t rely on taxing richer Americans and companies to reduce the deficit to sustainable levels by 2014 because those groups would see 40% tax increases.

The Obama administration wants to stimulate consumer spending to revive the economy. Ok, good idea! But to achieve that, they propose a tax on consumption. Brilliant!!

I'm getting the sense that a shittier economy is the goal of this administration.
